Frequently Asked Questions :
"Can my existing fixtures be cleaned or polished to restore the shine they've lost?"
If your fixture is made of fiberglass, acrylic, or cultured marble, it can - in some cases - be polished. . If normal household cleaners fail to bring back the shine on your other fixtures, your finish has most likely been damaged or worn and has probably become pitted and porous. The more you scrub, the worse it will be.
"Why should Refinish instead of replacing my existing bathtub?"
Put yourself in the position of someone deciding whether to replace or refinish an existing bathroom. Replacement fixtures are almost invariably of lesser quality than the original. (They don't make them like they use to!) New Again refinishing`s restoration process takes hours verses weeks of expensive removal and replacement of bathtubs, tiles and other fixtures. Additionally, tub removal and replacement costs up to $3,000 or more. The cost to refinish is a fraction of this average: about 15%. Customers realize a savings close to 85%!
"Can New Again Refinishing repair chips and cracks?"
Yes! New Again Refinishing can easily restore worn, chipped or broken tile without the inconvenience or expense of replacement. Existing fixtures such as bathtubs, sinks, floor, kitchen and wall tiles, countertops and more can be repaired and resurfaced for a fraction of replacement costs.
Damaged porcelain, fiberglass, vitreous china, cast iron, stainless steel, Formica and cultured marble can also be restored with a matching finish, avoiding the cost along with the inconvenience of replacement.
"When I have a fixture refinished, does it require special care or cleaning materials?"
No! Your new finish should be cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaner just as you would with a new fixture or tile. Abrasives are capable of damaging even the most durable surfaces.
"Can a single chip in my fixture be repaired?"
Yes! It can be completely blended into the surface.
"Can I change the color of my fixture?"
Absolutely! There is a wide variety of designer colors to choose from, to complement any decor. Custom colors are easily mixed to match existing surfaces.
"How long does it take to refinish a fixture, tile or appliance?"
It usually takes a few hours. Most of the time is spent in preparing the original surface for refinishing. After the fixture, tile, or appliance has been refinished, there is only a 24 hour "curing" time required before the fixture can be used.
"What should I do to prepare the fixture to be refinished?"
Repair or replace any plumbing problems (leaking faucets, broken handles, pipes) and remove any hardware such as shower doors and tracks which are directly connected to the tub or sink.
"Is there a charge for an estimate or inspection?"
No! We realize there are always questions that need a personal touch. Please call and let us answer it for you, personally. 808-335-5370
“How long will it last?”
If proper cleaning procedures are followed, your newly refinished item will look beautiful for 8-12 years. Wall tile that is refinished should last indefinitely.
A basic description of a bathtub refinishing process :
1. Clean bathtub and remove caulking.
2. Mask around the bath tub and cover areas not to be refinished.
3. Remove fixtures and overflow cover.
4. Set up ventilation fan to vent overspray and odor outside.
5. Lightly sand entire bathtub.
6. Depending on the service you choose, the tub may also be etched with acid to help the coatings adhere.
7. Vacuum bathtub.
8. Fill chipped, scratched, or worn areas, then sand smooth. If there is extensive damage, the restorer may charge nominal extra fees for this.
9. Put down drop-cloths and covers over cabinets, sinks, fixtures, toilet, etc.
10. Spray on primer and let dry.
11. Spray on top coat mixture and let dry.
12. Tub is ready to use within 24 hours. Your new coat is durable but not as durable as the original coating.
